The foldable step is preferably for use with rubbish collection vehicles and is accessible by persons in the downwardly unfolded state. When folded upwards, it cannot be used. A contactless working inductive sensor (6) probes the upwardly folded state of the step. The sensor is connected to a part joined to the vehicle structure, where an axis (2) makes possible the folding movement of the step. A part (1) firmly connected with the step is rotatably connected via the axis with an assembly part (5). In the part a hole is provided, which in the upwardly folded state of the step is directly opposite the probe area of the sensor and thereby releases a switching process.
