A wind energy converter (3) has vertical rotor blades (1) fixed on a tower (2) to rotate without a driving mechanism. The tower has a central tube with two supports. Compressed air held in a compressed air store (4) is turned into electrical power in a combined compressed-air motor/power generator (6) and then distributed to an appropriate consumer (5).
