The continuous transmission has a drive element (12) and an output element (14) with revolution rate sensors, friction elements (16) that engage the drive and output elements by friction and adjust their angle between them to produce transmission ratios, an angle setting arrangement for the friction elements, an arrangement for determining a corresponding friction element offset value and an arrangement for indicating the angle setting and corresponding offset value. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of regulating the normal force in a continuously variable unit of a continuously variable traction drive.
