A moulding device (10) for fastening elements for the moulding of fastening elements out of cylindrical work pieces (6) contains: - a work piece gripper (12) which is designed so that it grips a generally cylindrical work piece in detachable fashion; and - a moulding tool (18) which is spaced away along a moulding axis from the gripper. At least the gripper or the tool is carried relative to the other for the reciprocating movement along the axis between a remote position and a near position. The gripper and the tool in the remote position are located further from one another than in the near position. The gripper is designed so that it holds the work piece in a coaxial alignment to the moulding axis.
