Measurement values of unknown workpiece contour are received in the coordinate system of a coordinate measuring machine. A scan cycle is used as a repeating time interval. The maximum acceleration of a probe for a guiding axis and a scan axis is limited. The maximum speed of the probe for the guide axis and scan axis is limited. An Independent claim is also included for a scanning device.
