New phenylacetylene compounds (I) are tolane, 4,4'-alkyltolane and 4,4'-alkoxytolane 4,4'-(meth)acrylates and derivatives with another phenylethynyl group and/or a cyclohexylene ring and/or ethylene or ethynyl group in the chain. New phenylacetylene compounds (I) are tolane, 4,4'-alkyltolane and 4,4'-alkoxytolane 4,4'-(meth)acrylates and derivatives with another phenylethynyl group and/or a cyclohexylene ring and/or ethylene or ethynyl group in the chain of the formula: Q1, Q2, Q3 = (substituted) phenylene; B1, B2 = H or methyl; W = a single bond, -CH2CH2- or -CC-; m, n = 0-14; p, q, r, s, t = 0 or 1; if q = 0, Q2 and Q3 = phenylene with 1-10C (fluoro)alkyl or (fluoro)alkoxy substituent(s); if s = 1, n = not 0; if t = 1, m = not 0.
