The solar cell comprises the first insulating layer (12a) formed on the main plane (11a) of the conducting base (11), the second insulating layer (12b) formed a second main plane (11b) of the base, and the light absorption layer (14) arranged on the first insulating layer. The light absorption layer is made from a semiconductor containing an element from group Ib, IIIb and/or IVb. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a solar cell comprising forming a multiple layer film containing a conducting layer and a layer containing an element from group Ib, IIIb and/or IVb; and forming a light absorption layer formed from a conductor containing an element from group Ib, IIIb and/or IVb on the multiple layer film. Preferred Features: The conducting base is made from a metal and the semiconductor is made from Cu, at least one of In or Ga, and at least one of Se or S.
