The division or module editing device improves the user situation by reducing the time which elapses before a data file obtained by the division- or module- editing process is reproduced and outputted, thus increasing the user satisfaction factor. For editing data coded in a given unit and stored in a storage medium, a definition device defines a editing position for the coded data and an evaluation device evaluates the reproduction/playback status when the coded data is reproduced from the editing position defined by the definition device. An indicator/reference device points the user of the editing device to the evaluation result.
