An aggregate for road surfaces consists of a granulated material whose essential element is an active substance which inhibits ice formation and has the form of fine primary grains bonded by a binder. The primary grains of active substance have a maximum grain size below 0.2 mm and are treated at their surface with bitumen so that at least the finest fraction of active substance with grain sizes below 0.003 mm is completely or almost completely bonded by the bitumen into agglomerated secondary grains, the largest grains of aggregate being smaller than 0.5 mm. Also disclosed is a process for producing the aggregate and a process for incorporating the aggregate into a bitumen-bonded road surface.
