Power circuit outputs are connected to line or column capacitive electrodes, to which are connected a first electrode of the cells of the same line, or, respectively, of the same column. The discharge time for each output of the power circuit is measured by a constant discharge current in order to deduce the presence or absence of a capacitive electrode of the display connected to the output. Testing involves: (a) switching a power circuit output to a high state in a set time, (b) switching the same output to a low state, (c) determining output discharge time by a constant discharge current, (d) detecting the presence or absence of a capacitive charge connected to the output, and (e) repeating the stages (a)-(d) for each power circuit output. An Independent claim is given for a power circuit specially designed for implementing the testing process.
