The rectangular base (1) is typically partly buried in the ground - opt., rests on the surface - and supports a floor slab (7) with an opening in the centre or to one siide through which cables connected to the equipment in the cabin may rise. The cabin (2), also supported on the base, has rear and side walls (4) carrying a detachable, slightly convex roof (5) which extends (5A) beyond a front partition (3) incorporating a hinged or sliding door. A grill (9), fitted between the overhanging roof lip (5A) and the partition top (3B) permits air to circulate through the enclosure from the vented base. The construction is typically of concrete, but opt. of metal, or mixed. Temporarily installed cables (CA) can enter the base through a transverse horizontal slot (6) formed, behind and below the foot (3A) of the front partition, between the raised front rim (1A) of the base and a recess (7A) under the floor slab into which it projects. The baffle thus formed helps to exclude surface water and deter vandalising intrusion, while admitting cables and cool air. A horizontal nose (1B) on the front rim, forming the floor of the entry slot, projects to provide or support a foot-way.
