This device includes activity analysis means, capable of assessing the level of activity of the patient wearing the device and of discriminating between phases of rest (I), normal activity (II) and effort (III ); means for stimulating at least one cardiac cavity, capable of delivering electrical impulses to the heart at a basic frequency determined by the device; and means able to adjust said base frequency as a function of the activity level determined by the activity analysis means, this base frequency (Fb) being able to be lowered to a given minimum level (Fs) during a rest phase (I). Provision is also made for: means for detecting the occurrence of bradydependent extrasystoles and evaluating a corresponding rate of extrasystoles, and means capable of raising the minimum level of the basic frequency when the rate of extrasystoles exceeds a predetermined threshold during said rest phase. The invention also allows, mutatis mutandis, the treatment of the effects of tachydependent extrasystoles.
