Magneto-optic read head with reduction of noise due to diffusion of laser beam by dust particles

The read head has a substrate (2) with a pole (4) on one face, a gap (5) and a reflective layer (6). A reading laser beam is reflected (8A) onto a lateral face (3A) of the substrate then reflected (13) to the pole, near the zone of contact with the magnetic tape (14). To reduce diffusion of the laser beam by dust particles (15), a protective aluminium layer is deposited on the lateral face.
