Data transfer procedure has the following steps: definition of data transfer constraints, request for data transfer from a remote computer system, identification of one or more objects included in the requested data as being a generic object and substitution of the generic object for each of the identified objects according to the data transfer constrains. Independent claims are made for an interface device for connection to a computer system such as the Internet and for procedures for compressing and decompressing graphical images transferred over the network.
