The present invention relates to a catalyst which contains at least one zeolite of structural type NES, preferably NU-87, comprising silicon and at least one element T chosen from the group formed by aluminum, iron, gallium, boron. Preferably, element T has been extracted so that the overall Si / T atomic ratio is greater than 20. This zeolite is present at least partially in acid form. The binder is preferably alumina. The catalyst also contains at least one metal chosen from the group formed by the VIIB group, the VIB group and iridium, preferably rhenium. Finally, optionally, the catalyst contains, in addition, at least one metal chosen from the group formed by the elements of groups III and IV of the Periodic Table of Elements, preferably indium and tin. The present invention also relates to the use of the catalyst in a process for transalkylating alkylaromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene and alkylaromatics containing at least 9 carbon atoms. This catalyst is, in particular, very efficient in the treatment of C9 + aromatic fillers containing a percentage of aromatic molecules with 10 carbon atoms and more than 5% by weight, this charge also being able to contain benzene.
