The leading sail for a marine vessel (20) is quadrilateral in shape and symmetrical with respect the steering axis. The lower two edges (23,23') form a leading edge and the upper edges (22,22') form lifting edge. The sail is folded around a cable (14). Two sheet points at the level of the lifting and leading edges are connected and are lashed to at least one sheet.
