To produce a filter (1) of a metal mesh, with a symmetrical vertical plane with a vertical wall (2) and a closed base (3), the metal mesh (4) is shaped to form a half-tube (5) around an axis (A) with rounded ends. The half-tube is bent into shape, and a slit opening (6) is formed at the center of the half-tube at a tangent to it and at right angles to its axis, to give two half-shells (7,7') linked together by strap sections (8,8') at the ends of the opening. The two half-shells are bent by 90 deg towards each other to form the circular and vertical wall with a closed base. Preferred Features: The shaping of the metal mesh (4), the bending of the half-tube (5) and a slit (6) opening formation are all executed simultaneously. The joint (9) between the two half-shells (7,7') is welded to give the vertical wall (2) and closed base (3). The filter structure can be molded at least along the plane of the joint (9) and around the upper edge (10) of the vertical wall (2) and at the exterior of the base (3).
