The stool can be adjusted in height by a telescopic system which is activated by a gas cartridge (9). This is controlled by inclining the seat of the stool, which compresses a lug (12) on the cartridge. The stool is raised by a spring (8) at the base of the telescopic system. An Independent claim is included for a method for adjusting the height of a stool using the system described above.
