A preform for blow or stretch molding large bottles of at least 5 liter capacity is largely cylindrical with an outer diameter ( phi ) of at least 48 cm. The neck region (4) is fully formed to the final dimension and has a groove for the closure attachment. An Independent claim is also included for a bottle of at least 5 liter capacity, especially of polyethylene terephthalate, made from such a preform. The bottle can have a flat angled side so that it can rest in a tilted position for dispensing its contents.
