The current transformer (10) has guide plates (20) that position the line (12) and neutral (14) conductors relative to the toroidal magnetic core (16), which is held within the guides. The amplitude and orientation of asymmetries are measured, and the current transformer modified by removal of part of the core or application of magnetic paint to correct the asymmetries.
