The orientable reflector has two parts (23,24) designed to transmit two different infra red rays corresponding to different temperatures. The two parts (23,24) are made so that they reflect an image of the sky in at least one given direction. One of the reflectors has a coefficient of reflection of infra red from the sky of at least 0.4. The device for protecting an object against a heat seeking missile, includes a movable reflector, fitted in proximity to a part of the object to be protected, which reflects in at least a set direction, infra red radiation from the sky excepting that which comes directly from the sun. The reflector is associated with a heat seeking missile sensor and with means for controlling the reflectors position. Method for protecting at least a part of a system which can be detected by a heat seeking missile. Interposed between the missile and the part and near to the latter a reflector is fitted which is designed to reflect in the direction of the missile the infra red radiation from the sky excepting that coming directly from the sun.
