New isocyanate-, anhydride- or epoxy-functionalized biocidal compounds, useful for grafting onto substrates, e.g. wood, to provide biocidal, e.g. insecticidal or fungicidal, activity

Functionalized derivatives (I) of biocidal compounds, carrying an isocyanate, anhydride or epoxide group, are new. Functionalized biocidal compound derivatives (I) of formulae OCN-R-NH-CO-X-A (IA), Anh-R'-CO-X-A (IB) and Ep-R'-CH(OH)-X-A (IC) are new. R, R' = organic fragments; Anh = anhydride group; Ep = epoxide group; -X-A = residue of a parent biocidal compound A-XH (II). Independent claims are included for: (i) the preparation of (I); (ii) the production of substrates having biocidal activity, by contacting a substrate having functions reactive with isocyanate, anhydride or epoxy groups with (I), so that the biocidal molecule becomes covalently attached to the substrate; and (iii) substrates covalently grafted with (I).
