Processing of waste rubber includes crushing the waste to produce a powder, adding a plastifier at or around ambient temperature, mixing the powder with a thermoplastic binder and then extruding the mixture. The extrusion includes heating the mixture to the fusion temperature of the binder. Silica and/or a foaming agent may be added to the powder. The powder with added plastifier is separated into two parallel streams using a 0.5 micro m filter. Both streams are processed as above by adding binder and then extruding them to form a sheet. The sheets are joined to form a composite sheet.
