The access aid consists of a vertical post (4) topped by a horizontal beam (41) and engaging with a socket (5) fixed to the top (11) of the tank (1). The post acts as a support for a rope ladder (7), while the beam carries a bracket on its free end for fastening a safety line. The post is e.g. 1m high and the beam 80 cm long, made from welded stainless steel tubing 100 mm in diameter and 6 - 7 mm thick. The length of the beam ensures that the safety line passes freely through the manhole opening.
