The invention relates to several families of low pressure drop photocatalytic reactors based on titanium dioxide on a silica support, where the excitation ultraviolet light transits totally or partially via the silica support. For one of these families, variations in the adsorption capacity of titanium dioxide are used, depending on the temperature. The invention also relates to the production of silica supports in order to make them capable of conducting and diffusing ultraviolet light over long distances, as well as the preparation of a titanium dioxide catalyst of anatase structure, of large developed area, with high capacity. adsorption and easily thermally regenerable, from a gel very stable over time, obtained from titanium alkoxides.
