The present invention concerns a novel therapeutic compositions comprising a phenol component and propolis which is useful in combating lipidic capside viruses, which contains (1) 100 to 650 parts by weight of phenol component for (ii) one part by weight of propolis. This novel composition is especially useful in the treatment of herpes, especially the diseases caused by the virus strains HSV.sub.1, HSV.sub.2 HSV.sub.1 R.
