An ornamental pool comprises a liner 10 which includes a peripheral region 11 bounded by an upstanding peripheral edge 12, a sump 16 and a central pool region 13 for containing a body of water. The peripheral region 11 includes a plurality of sections 14 on which a pebble beach effect is provided either by actual pebbles or a simulated surface, and a plurality of pockets or recesses 15 containing plants. The sump 16 suitably receives a pump for recirculating the contained water.
