A lattice 2 of fibre reinforced plastics is wound as a filament around the outer surface of a porous tube 1 to impart strength and allow an increased water flow to the inside of the tube. Longitudinal reinforcement strips 3 are disposed on the inner surface of the porous tube or may be embedded in the body of the porous tube. The porous tube material may be a bonded particulate material such as gravel bonded with epoxy resin.
