Melt or solution processable highly conducting polyaniline and blends therof with thermoplastics and elastomers

A melt or solution processable polyaniline comprises polyaniline doped or protonated with a dopant of the formula (1), (2) or (3) shown below. EMI ID=1.1 HE=58 WI=105 LX=220 LY=687 TI=CF The product has high conductivity, high solubility in weak polar or non polar solvents, thermal stability, three dimensional variable range doping condition and high degree of crystalline order. The dopant may be incorporated during emulsion polymerisation of aniline. Films may be produced by solution casting of the doped polyaniline. Blends of the doped polyaniline with PVC, EVA, PVA, PMMA, polyvinyl acetate or other thermoplastics, or an elastomer, e.g. natural rubber, are described.
