PURPOSE: To provide a polycondensation method by sol-gel process which can be performed at room temperature without the need of heating. ;CONSTITUTION: An organometallic compound or inorganic metal compound dissolved in an organic solvent is hydrolyzed with water to produce a hydrolyzate, which is then applied on a substrate. The resultant coating material is oxidized by nascent oxygen and put to polycondensation through sol-gel process. The nascent oxygen can be produced by irradiating carbon dioxide or nitrogen dioxide with ionizing radiation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
