PURPOSE: To quantitatively judge dispersion of a starting characteristic of a discharge lamp, and judge the quality by increasing electric power supply to the discharge lamp in order from a minimum value, depicting a load curve when starting is completed, and comparing this with a reference. ;CONSTITUTION: Alternating current voltage is impressed on a discharge lamp 7 through a starting circuit 6. When the discharge lamp 7 begins starting, a discharge lamp electric current and discharge lamp voltage are detected by a discharge lamp electric current detecting circuit 30 and a discharge lamp voltage detecting circuit 29, and whether the discharge lamp 7 is started or not is judged. When the discharge lamp 7 is not started, a preset pattern of supply electric power is increased. When starting operation of the discharge lamp 7 is completed, demand electric power of the discharge lamp 7 is calculated in a personal computer control circuit 10, and an electric power pattern corresponding to this is found. A load curve corresponding to this supply electric power is depicted on a CRT display part 33, and it is compared with a preset reference load curve, and the quality of a starting characteristic of the discharge lamp 7 is judged.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
