PURPOSE:To measure and evaluate density nonuniformity rectangular to a scanning line with high accuracy while coupling it with the cause concerning an image provided by an image recorder such as a laser imager or a laser printer to record the image by scanning a light beam. CONSTITUTION:The density of a sample 9 is calculated based on the quantity of light for laser light 2 emitted from an He-Ne laser 1 to be transmitted through the sample 9, and the density distribution of the sample 9 is calculated based on this density and a density measurement position on the sample 9 measured by a laser length measure 11. Based on this density distribution, a CPU 15 prepares density nonuniformity distribution, scanning line pitch nonuniformity distribution or light beam intensity nonuniformity distribution and displays it on a display device 16.
