PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mass-produce the light attenuating fiber assembly which can provide an arbitrary attenuation quantity by using a light attenuating fiber. ;SOLUTION: The light attenuating fiber assembly (FA) includes the light attenuating filter 9, an ordinary optical fiber 10 connected to one end of the light attenuating fiber 9, and a ferrule 16 which receives and fixes the other end of the light attenuating fiber 9, which is shortened by cutting or grinding so as to a specific attenuation quantity while connected to the ordinary optical fiber 10 before or after being fixed to the ferrule 16. The ordinary optical fiber 10 of this light attenuating fiber assembly (FA) is also cut to constant length and the cut end is fixed to another ferrule 20 and ground, so that the light attenuating fiber assembly (FA) which is coupled by an array sleeve 19 with the other ferrule 20 and the ferrule 16 for receiving and fixing the other end of the light attenuating fiber 9 can be obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
