PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regulate at least either of a curvature amount of arc or a looked width of the arc in an appearance of a high luminance discharge lamp using a simple and inexpensive constitution.;SOLUTION: This is the high luminance discharge lamp device 110 equipped with a high luminance discharge lamp 111 encapsulated by an encapsulated material 136 containing rare gas and metal halide as luminescent material in a light emitting tube 121 wherein a pair of electrodes 122, 122 are installed, and with a lighting circuit 113 to turn on the high luminance discharge lamp 111, and this is installed so that a straight line to tie the electrodes 122, 122 to become horizontal, and the direction of a magnetic flux line is made to act on a magnetic field in the perpendicular direction, and at the same time by changing a frequency of alternating current to drive the high luminance discharge lamp 111, at least either of the curvature amount of the arc or the looked width of the arc in the appearance can be easily regulated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
