PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photochromic diarylethene-based compound which has excellent dispersibility in various polymer media and can produce together with the polymer medium a thin film exhibiting excellent mechanical strengths and excellent photochromic characteristics, when irradiated with UV light.;SOLUTION: The isooxazole group-substituted photochromic diarylethene- based compound represented by the general formula 1 [R1 is a bonding line, oxygen atom, or a 1 to 3C alkylene substituted or not substituted by one or more fluorine atoms; R2 is H, (CR4H)nOH or C6(R5)mHl; R3 is selected from phenylisoxazole, hydroxymethylisioxazole, acetyl, H, OH, and phenyl; R4 is a 1 to 10C alkyl; R5 is the same as R4, or Cl, nitro or BY; X and Y are each independently O, N or S; Z is substituted or non-substituted methylene or carbonyl; (n), (m) and (l) are each an integer of 1 to 5].;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
