PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide chronic renal failure gene-1 polypeptide and polynucleotide, and to provide a method for producing the polypeptide by a recombinant technique. SOLUTION: The isolated polynucleotide comprises a nucleotide sequence that has at least 80% identity over its entire length to a nucleotide sequence encoding the chronic renal failure gene-1 polypeptide of the sequence No.2 (see the specification) and has the activity of the chronic renal failure gene-1 polypeptide, or that has a nucleotide sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence. The chronic renal failure gene-1 polypeptide and polynucleotide are useful for the treatments of functional disorders or diseases including chronic renal disease, renal ishemia, diabetic rephropathy, acute renal failure, and Alzheimer's disease, and for the diagnostic assays for the conditions.
