PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-tertiary butylphenol and biphenols by which the high-quality 4-tertiary butylphenol, together with the biphenols, can be produced by rearranging tertiary butyl groups eliminated from the intermediates of biphenols having the tertiary butyl groups as substituent groups on aromatic rings to the phenol according to a transalkylating reaction in a process for producing the biphenols.;SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4-tertiary butylphenol and biphenols is a method by which the biphenols can be produced and the industrially valuable high-purity 4-tertiary butylphenol can be produced by limiting the transalkylating reactional temperature and molar ratio of the phenol to the tertiary butyl groups within specific ranges and carrying out the reaction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
