PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-tertiary butylphenol (PTBP) containing a less amount of impurities by which the aromatic polycarbonate can suitably be used for applications of optical recording media or optical information transmission media without discoloring of the aromatic polycarbonate when the PTBP is used as a terminal blocking agent of the aromatic polycarbonate. ;SOLUTION: This method is to produce the PTBP reacting phenol (a) with isobutylene (b), preferably isobutylene (b1) with preferably 100 ppm contents of a dialkyl ether in the presence of a catalyst under ≤200 kPa pressure, preferably under atmospheric pressure.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
