PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an N-alkylchitosan derivative curable by ultraviolet irradiation to give a polymer and applicable as an antibacterial coating material, biodegradable coating material, substrate primer for electroless plating, contact lens and dental material and provide an N- alkylchitosan derivative produced by this method and a polymer of the derivative.;SOLUTION: The N-alkylchitosan derivative having an ultraviolet-curable functional group is produced by reacting a chitosan expressed by formula (I) ((n) is degree of substitution of N-alkyl group; and m+n=1) with a (meth)acrylic acid derivative having aldehyde group and expressed by formula (II) (R is a straight-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon group having acryloyl or methacryloyl group). The present invention further relates to an N-alkylchitosan derivative obtained by this method and a polymer produced by using the derivative.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
