PURPOSE:To provide excellent flexibility and high capacity on the occasion of winding for insertion into a battery case by forming plural number of cracks of 3mm or less average gap, which extend in an orthogonal direction with a winding direction on active composite material CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen occulding alloy electrode 3 is passed through at least one time between a pair of hard roller 1 and soft roller 2 facing each other. On this occasion the electrode 3 is bending deformed along the curved form of the roller 1 while eating into the roller 2, so as to form cracks 4 extending in an orthogonal direction with a winding direction, on active composite material of the electrode 3. In this case plural number of cracks 4 are formed so that their average gap becomes 3mm or less. It is also desirable for the diameter of the roller 1 to be 5-30mm. Thereby it is possible to provide excellent flexibility, high capacity, and prevention of internal short-circuit caused by the fall-out of hydrogen occulding alloy powder on the occasion of winding for insertion into a battery case so as to easily obtain a nickel hydrogen secondary battery and the like having excellent reliability and the high capacity.
