PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of a computer network for downloading digital data from one of servers to a client computer by using a hierarchical algorithm determining a group of candidate servers according to the capability of a server for distributing necessary digital data and network-concerned consideration points such as proximity to a client. SOLUTION: This method of the computer network which downloads the digital data from one of the servers to the client computer includes a step for receiving an identifier relating to the client, a step for retrieving server redirection information, a step for retrieving server availability information, and a step for selecting a 1st candidate server according to the redirection information and availability information.
