PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relax the load on exhaust capacity and also to contrive the prevention of excessive cooling of exhaust gas thereby suppressing the drop of heat loss, by performing the cooling of the exhaust gas as occasion demands so that the temperature of exhaust gas flowing into an air preheater may not get over the heat-resistant temperature of the air preheater, and further, preventing the increase in the quantity of exhaust gas more than necessary, in a heating furnace combining a regenerative burner and a continuous combustion type burner having a preheater. SOLUTION: In a heating furnace which combines the regenerative burner 1 and the continuous combustion type burner 2 having a preheater 32, heat accumulative exhaust gas introduction systems 7 and 8, which introduce exhaust gas at low temperature after heat exchange discharged from the regenerative burner 1, are arranged on the entry side and delivery side, respectively, of the exhaust gas of the air preheater 32, and either system or both systems of them are provided with flow control valves 72 and 81.
