PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately achieve an axisymmetrical aspherical surface by moving the grinding point of a grinding wheel according to the curve of the axisymmetrical spherical surface to be polished, to increase an executing working area of a grinding wheel when the grinding point is moved and provide an increased life for a grinding wheel, and to prevent the occurrence of inability in grinding due to dulling and loading in the middle of grinding. ;SOLUTION: The rotation direction of an object to be ground and the rotation direction of a grinding wheel are equalized with each other and the forming directions of a grinding streak mark and the helical mark formed in an object 1 to be ground by a grinding wheel 4 are brought into approximately coincidence with each other. Further, the position of the grinding point of the grinding wheel 4 is determined based on the shape of a curve 2b formed by an axisymmetrical surface 2 to be formed by the object to be ground, the sectional shape of the outer peripheral part of the grinding wheel 4, and the relative position of the grinding wheel 4 with the curve shape. Further, a distance between the position of the grinding point and the position of the curve 2b corresponding thereto is determined and the object 1 to be ground and the grinding wheel 4 are fed in a direction, in which the two members approach each other, according to the distance. The section of the outer peripheral part of the grinding wheel 4 is formed in an arcuate shape, an oval shape, or a parabolic shape.
