PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the raw material for a sintered body by which a YAG sintered body having high density can be obtained without using aluminum oxide of an α phase as the raw material and undergoing a calcining stage, and a method for producing a YAG sintered body having high density using the raw material.;SOLUTION: In the method for producing the raw material for a powdery yttrium-aluminum-garnet sintered body, yttrium oxide or the precursor thereof and an aluminum oxide precursor or aluminum oxide other than an α phase are blended so that the atomic ratio of yttrium and aluminum is controlled to 3/4.7 to 3/5.2, and dry blending treatment is performed till the BET specific surface area reduces to 6 to 60%.
