PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information storage system and an information retrieval system for making good use of information scattered on a network. SOLUTION: In this information retrieval system, a terminal device 300 is equipped with an input means which inputs a retrieval request from a user, a retrieving means 110 which requests retrieval of an information storage device 4 and receives its result when the retrieval request inputted by the input means is a request for retrieval from the information storage device 400 and retrieves document data on the terminal device 300 when the inputted request is a request to retrieve document data on the terminal device 300, and a display means 120 which displays the retrieval result, and the information storage device 400 is equipped with an open information retrieving means 130 which receives the retrieval request from the retrieving means and retrieves document information stored on the information storage device 400 and a retrieval result transmitting means which sends the retrieval result to the terminal device 300 having made the retrieval request.
