PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high quality font data at a low cost.;SOLUTION: The font generation device 1 is provided with a basic font acquisition part 10 for acquiring a basic font F1 having a size (n×m) times as large as a multi-gradation font (corrected font) F2 to be generated, an area division part 21 for dividing the basic font F1 into unit areas of (m×n) pixels each, a total value calculation part 22 for calculating a total value of the gradation value of each pixel contained in each unit area, a total value alteration part 23 for altering the total value of each unit area according to various detection results, and a gradation value calculation part 24 for calculating the gradation value of each pixel of the corrected font F2 based on the altered total value of each unit area. Moreover, the total value alteration part 23 alters the total value of each unit area based on the detection result of at least one of such detection parts as a variation trend detection part 25 for detecting a variation trend of the gradation value in each unit area, a center point detection part 26 for detecting the center point in the prescribed direction of a low density pixel, and a blocked white area detection part 27 for detecting blocked whited pixels.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
