PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively decrease the difference in characteristics for S-polarized light and P-polarized light and deterioration in the characteristics with changes in the incident angle in an optical filter, which intercepts light of long wavelength or in an optical filter which intercepts light of short wavelength.;SOLUTION: The optical filter intercepts light at long wavelength and consists of an optical multilayered film 30 and a pair of transparent substrates 10, 20 holding the film 30. At least either the half-value wavelength in the spectral transmittance for the P-polarized light or the half-value wavelength in the spectral transmittance for S-polarized light is in the range of 570 to 620 nm, and the difference of the half value wavelength between for the P-polarized light and the S-polarized light is ≤50 nm.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
