PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gain equalizer which can dynamically compensate not only a linear slope, but also a ripple of high order as to wavelength characteristics of the power of WDM signal light with high precision and has high reliability.;SOLUTION: This gain equalizer is equipped with variable optical filters 101 and 102 which are able to vary wavelength characteristics of transmissivity by using magnetooptic effect and have their wavelength characteristics of transmissivity set differently from each other and a control part 12 which detect the wavelength characteristics of the power of WDM signal lights transmitted through the various optical filters 101 and 102 and performs feedback control over the transmission wavelength characteristics of the variable optical filters 101 and 102 so that the light power deviation between the wavelengths is suppressed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
