PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a home delivery service company to notify a consignee of existence of an article to be delivered even when the consignee is away from home for a long time and enable the home delivery service company to deliver the article on a date specified by the consignee.;SOLUTION: The method comprises steps of retrieving a branch office responsible for the address of the consignee from a branch master file based on information about the consignee; retrieving the mail address of the consignee from a local residents' information master file based on the information about the consignee; retrieving possible delivery dates for the address from a master maintaining correspondent relationship between addresses and possible delivery dates based on the address; notifying the consignee of the article and the possible delivery dates via e-mail from a computer of the home delivery service company; notifying the computer of the desired delivery date selected from the possible delivery dates by the consignee via air mail; and determining the desired delivery date as the delivery date.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
