PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for detecting a short circuit fault station caused in a bus transmission line with high detection accuracy at a low cost. SOLUTION: A sine wave signal generated by a sine wave oscillator 4 is made incident onto a transmission line 2 to produce a standing wave resulting from overlapping of an incident wave and a reflected wave, and an amplitude level detector 6 measures the amplitude level of the reflected wave obtained via a directional coupler 5. The measurement cycle as above is sequentially conducted for a resonance frequency depending on a distance to each of stations 1 (1-1-1-n) connected to the transmission line 2 to obtain the resonance frequency of the transmission line 2 to be tested and a short circuit fault position (fault station 1-i) is located on the basis of the distance to which the obtained resonance frequency corresponds.
